NetTalk - Copyright 1990 - Frederick Volking
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
NetTalk allows users to "talk" to each other, from one PC to another,
across Local Area Networks. The maximum number of people that can use
NetTalk, at the same time, is unknown. Testing has proven NetTalk is able
to handle upwards of 32 simultaneous users. Only those theoretical limits,
imposed by the host LAN, need be considered.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
INSTALLATION:
1. Copy the program NETTALK.EXE to a shared LAN drive.
2. Installation done ....
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
USE:
1. Using your normal network commands, gain access to the LAN drive
containing NetTalk.EXE.
2. Make the LAN drive your default drive.
3. Run the program by typing the command> NETTALK
The program will begin running. If you are the first person to begin
NetTalk you'll be shown a blank screen. If you join NetTalk after others
have already been talking, you will be shown one screen-full of the most
recent messages.
Simply type the message you want to send. If your message exceeds one line,
your text will be automatically wrapped to the next line. You may send
upto 10 lines of text in any single "burst". To send your message, press
an F2 function key. The entire content of your message will be sent and
your screen will be cleared, awaiting your next message.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The source code for NetTalk, written in Microsoft Basic and using Crescent
Software's QuickPak Professional utilities, is avalable for a fee of $50.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
TECHNICAL: For communications, the program uses a temporary file called
NETTALK.DAT. The file is automatically created when the first
user signs on, and is automatically deleted when the final user
leaves the program. The automatic creation and deletion occur
every time the program is run.
Rather than exiting NetTalk normally, a user will sometimes
reboot their computer! If this occurs, it may leave the
temporary file in existance. If this condition occurs, NetTalk
will attempt to erase the file the first time it is run
following the reboot. If NetTalk is unsuccessful, you may need
to use normal LAN Manager commands to force the deletion of the
temporary file.
If the Temporary file is not deleted. It will continue to grow!
Every message that is sent will be added to the file.
The only problem with this occuring, is that eventually you'll
run out of disk space!

If you need to contact me, my Address & Phone number are in the program
Sign-Off screen ......
Enjoy !
